RVB Top 50 RV Dealers Honored in Las Vegas

With a standing-room only crowd overflowing out of the Champagne Ballroom at the Paris Las Vegas Wendesday night (Nov. 7), the RVBusiness Top 50 Dealers Awards reception honored North American RV dealers for their outstanding customer service, community involvement and general excellence in overall operations. (To view a slideshow of the RVDA Expo scroll to the right side of the RVBUSINESS.com home page. The event was certainly one of the highlights of the 2018 RV Dealers Convention/Expo, which continues today for dealers with educational seminars, business sessions featuring manufacturers and suppliers, and the Expo trade show. This year’s Top 50 was sponsored by Airxcel, Brown and Brown Insurance, Cummins Power Generation, Dometic Corp., Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp., Lippert Components Inc., Northpoint Commercial Finance, NTP-STAG, Protective Asset Protection and Wells Fargo CDF.

Emceed by BJ Thompson with opening remarks by RVIA Chairman Garry Enyart of Cummins Inc., the Top 50 included a stirring performance by a Las Vegas-based bagpipe group — a tradition carried over from the RVBusiness industry party during the Louisville Show. The entire audience was silent as the bagpipes performed “Amazing Grace” in memory of the late Beverly Gardner, a founding partner of RVBusiness publisher G&G Media LLC, who recently died from ALS.

Among the Top 50 honorees, five Blue Ribbon honorees were singled out for their exemplary performances: Airstream Adventures Northwest, Affinity RV, PleasureLand RV Center, Richardson’s RV Centers and Wilkins RV.

Two other dealers also received special recognition: Burlington RV SuperStore, recipient of the Arthur J. Decio Humanitarian Award sponsored by Wells Fargo CDF for a dealer excelling in charitable endeavors, and Hartville RV Center, which earned the Gaylord Maxwell Innovation Award by Lippert Components Inc. for its creative business strategies.

Thompson pointed to the “Kids Love Camping Too” video series as being one of Hartville RV Center’s creative business strategies. The series includes RV walk-through videos produced by the two pre-teen sons of Hartville RV President Jeff Pastore. In fact, the boys created a video thanking everyone for the award, which was played for the Top 50 audience.

“They wrote, produced, edited and starred in a video series that gained a steady stream of followers and made an instant success. Soon we had guests asking to see the featured model and meet the cute kids in the video. It should serve as a reminder to all of us that what we do every day is to connect people to their dreams,” Pastore said.

When announcing the Humanitarian Award, Thompson singled out one of the charitable efforts of Burlington RV. The dealership and its president, Tim Wegge, were asked to contribute to a fundraiser for a family that had suffered severe burns when a fire destroyed their fifth-wheel. Not willing to settle on a simple contribution, the Wegges surprised the family with a brand-new fifth-wheel.

Wegge offered an emotional thank you after accepting the Decio Humanitarian Award, saying the highlighted example of the dealership’s charitable activities was never intended to become public.

“It’s not what you get, it’s what you give. And that’s not just a motto. It’s what we believe, and it’s the way that we operate our business. It’s about caring for people,” Wegge said. “We’ve been here for a purpose: to be the conduit through whom God’s works appear. And He does this with acts of kindness toward others, and I want to encourage everyone who have received so much in this industry to give back, pay it forward, listen and recognize when God is calling you. That’s where you will be able to find the true reward.”
