RVB Top 50 Dealer Awards Draw Big RVDA Con/Expo Crowd

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the RVBusiness Top 50 Dealer Awards ceremony Wednesday night (Nov. 10) at the Paris Hotel & Casino Las Vegas was one of the best ever. With about 1,000 people in attendance including friends, family and colleagues, the industry recognized, honored and celebrated North America’s dealers for not only what they do, but how they do it.

A program facilitated by RVBusiness magazine and its long-term marketing partner, BJ Thompson Associates – and with the generous support of sponsors Airxcel, Brown & Brown, Contoure USA, Cummins, Dometic Corp., Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp., Genesis Products, Northpoint Commercial Finance, NTP-STAG, Lippert Components Inc., Protective Asset Protection Division and Wells Fargo CDF – the Top 50 Dealer Awards ceremony has become a highlight on the RV Dealers Convention/Expo schedule of events.

And after taking a year hiatus due to the pandemic – as was the case with nearly all in-person events during the pandemic – the return of the Con/Expo and the Top 50 Dealer Awards in particular invoked a strong sense of camaraderie and fellowship. Indeed, during the social portion immediately preceding the awards ceremony, equal measures of fist bumps, handshakes and bear hugs were in wide use between dealers, manufacturers, supplier and other service providers.

As many noted, the RV industry is run on relationships, and video chats are a poor substitute.

In addition to the Top 50 dealers (listed below), five Blue Ribbon recipients were singled out by judges for exemplary performance – Affinity RV, Campers Inn RV, Colton RV, Hilltop Camper & RV and Sicard RV – as well as two dealers for the programs two special awards. Veurinks RV Center was recognized for exceptional creative business strategies with the Gaylord A. Maxwell Innovation Award sponsored by Lippert Components Inc. (LCI), while Airstream Adventures Northwest received the Arthur J. Decio Humanitarian Award sponsored by Wells Fargo CDF for outstanding charitable outreach.

In accepting the Maxwell Innovation Award, Matt Veurink noted that continuously seeking new and better ways to operate your business is the lifeblood of any dealership.

Ted Davis challenges the industry to have their philanthropic giving keep pace with their business success, while, from left, BJ Thompson, Gregg Fore, Sherman Goldenberg and Karen Goldenberg look on.

For his part, Ted Davis of Airstream Adventures Northwest challenged the dealers and other industry representatives in the audience by asking whether their level of philanthropic giving kept pace with the levels of business success in the last 18 months or so. He noted the RV industry has been fortunate to reap financial rewards from the pandemic, but there are many others in North America who have lost their incomes due to job loss or lost loved ones due to COVID. Davis challenged everyone to provide those people the help they need.

With this being the 10th anniversary of the Top 50 Awards, program coordinator Barb Riley highlighted just how exclusive the program has become.

“Over the 10 years, I have received nearly 4,000 nominations from the manufacturers that we asked over that time. Of those, however, 260 dealers have applied. And of those dealers who applied, 139 have enjoyed Top 50 status at least one time. So, it is an exclusive thing and you should feel pretty special,” Riley said.

She went on to say that 18 dealers have received the award at least five times, while three –  Arrkann Trailer & RV in Alberta, Mount Comfort RV in Indiana, and PleasureLand RV in Minnesota – have received it every year possible. (Canadian dealers weren’t eligible until the second year of the program.)

“And there are plenty of dealers who haven’t been in, and then tried and tried and tried again and got in,” she added. “And there are still yet some new names on our list this year that have never been in before. It is an ever-changing thing. You’ve got to keep up. You’ve got to do your thing. You’ve got to do well at telling the judges who you are and showing them what you’ve got.”
